Chapter 01 — True Value
Pureweight buys gold and silver through accurate measurement, transparent communication and professional handling.
You are shown the weight. You are shown the fineness. You are shown how those two figures produce the number in front of you — before you are asked to decide anything at all.
These describe how the service is conducted. Registrations, certifications, memberships and insurance are listed separately under Verified Trust Evidence, and only once confirmed.
Chapter 02 — The Process
Four stages, in order, with nothing agreed until the last one. Each stage produces a fact that the next stage depends on.
Come to the shop with whatever you have — jewellery, coins, bars, or a drawer of odds and ends.
Nothing needs sorting, cleaning or valuing beforehand. Broken chains, single earrings and pieces with the stones still in them are all perfectly normal, and there is no minimum worth bringing.
Each item is examined and weighed at the counter while you watch, not taken away.
Hallmarks are read under magnification, and where a mark is worn or absent the metal is tested rather than assumed. The scale stays where you can see it and the weight is read out as it is taken.
You are told what the metal weighs, how pure it is, and what we can pay for it.
Precious metal prices move through the trading day, so the figure relates to the market at that moment. How it is arrived at is shown rather than summarised — weight, fineness, and the market reference it is measured against.
If the figure suits you the sale completes there and then. If it does not, your items go back in your pocket.
There is no obligation at any point and no charge for having looked. Declining is an ordinary outcome and is treated as one.
Chapter 03 — What We Buy
Four categories, one order of operations: weigh it, establish what it actually is, show you the working, and only then talk about money.
01Worn, broken, inherited or unwanted — in any condition.
Chains, rings, bracelets, earrings and pendants, whether whole or in pieces. Nothing needs to be a matching pair, in working order, or worth anything in particular before it is worth bringing in.
02Hallmarked silver, from jewellery to tableware.
Silver is weighed and assessed on the same basis as gold, against its own market price. Plated items contain very little recoverable silver, and we will tell you plainly when that is what you have.
03Precious-metal coins, whether collected or inherited.
Coins are looked at twice: once for the metal in them, and once for whether the coin itself is worth more than that metal. Where the second is true you are told so, rather than paid for the weight.
04Investment bars and coins, assessed on weight and stated fineness.
Refiner marks and stated fineness are checked against the physical weight of the piece. Recognised bullion is handled on its own terms rather than treated as scrap metal.
Chapter 04 — Purity & Weight
Five things decide what a piece of gold is worth. Four of them can be established with an instrument. The fifth is the reference the business works to on the day.
Gold is weighed in grams or troy ounces. One troy ounce is 31.1035 grams — a different unit from the ounce used for everyday goods, and the reason two scales can disagree.
Purity is expressed in carats out of 24, or as parts per thousand. 22ct is 916 parts gold per thousand; 18ct is 750; 9ct is 375. The balance is alloy, and it is not gold.
Solder, plating, stones, clasps and previous repairs all change how much gold a piece actually contains. Condition is examined under magnification, not estimated from appearance.
Verified weight and fineness are read against the market reference the business works to at the time of assessment. This site does not display live rates.
The measured factors are brought together into a single figure and explained in full. A final valuation is only ever issued in person by Pureweight, never by this website.
This section explains how gold is assessed in general terms. It is not a valuation and does not produce one. A figure for your item can only be established by Pureweight, in person, after the item has been weighed and examined.
Chapter 05 — Built on Trust
The scale stays where you can see it and the weight is read out as it is taken. Nothing is carried into a back room.
Precious metal has a published market price. Any figure is related back to it, at the moment you are standing there.
Weight, the purity we have established, and how the two produce the figure — explained before you are asked to decide anything.
Having something examined and valued costs nothing. Taking it home again is an ordinary outcome, not an awkward one.
Chapter 06 — Come and See Us
There is no form to fill in and no figure to wait for. Come to the shop, and we will examine and weigh your items with you at the counter.
Bring the pieces, not the paperwork
Jewellery worn or broken, odd earrings, chains, coins, bars. Hallmarks help but are not needed — we establish purity ourselves.
Nothing is cleaned, cut or altered
Your items are examined and weighed as they are, in front of you, and handed straight back if you would rather keep them.
You see the scale and the working
The weight, the purity we have established, and how the offer relates to the market price of the day are all shown to you before you decide.
There is no obligation to sell
An examination and a figure cost nothing. Walking out with your gold is a perfectly normal outcome.

The Pureweight Approach
A scale settles because of physics. A customer settles because of how they were treated while it did.
Most people who sell gold do it once or twice in their lives, often at a difficult moment, and almost always without knowing what their item actually weighs or what it is actually made of. That asymmetry is the whole problem with the trade.
Pureweight is built on closing it: the weight is shown, the fineness is shown, and the reasoning behind the figure is explained before any decision is asked for.
Every figure begins with a number that can be independently checked. Weight is not negotiable and not a matter of opinion — which is exactly why it is the right place to start a conversation about value.
Gold arrives with circumstances attached — an estate, a separation, a business that needs cash this month. None of that is anyone else's business, and the service is arranged so that it does not have to be discussed in front of a queue.
